Comments
| Patricks year of birth is calculated based on the fact that he was 16 years old in 1700. (REF: February 28, 1699/1700 a.) Although it is not certain, he was most likely born in Great Britain, because Virginia was a British colony and, due to that fact, the vast majority of Virginia immigrants were British citizens. This likelihood is increased based on circumstances that indicate Patrick could well have arrived in America on a ship from Bristol, England. (REF: February 28, 1699/1700 b.) Bristol was, in fact, a major port of embarkation for servants leaving Great Britain. Most that set out from the port had come from the Severn Valley, the South Wales coastal plain, or the low-lying districts of Somerset.(1) Moreover, "Hambrook" was a common name in the county of Gloucestershire(2), where the Severn Valley is located. | ![]() |
